The discussion of what to bring for each type of fishing situation is too great in scope for this forum. The type of gear to bring for the visiting angler fishing the Kenai in a do-it-yourself fashion can be restricted to sockeye/pink/silver salmon and rainbow trout/Dolly Varden Char. This is a list of items that every traveler to Alaska should bring, regardless of the type of trip they will take.

Let's say the following is mandatory:

Quality rain gear - A must Have! Visit Sweeney's for Carhartt and Helly Hansen products.
A good hat
Camera, film (if not digital), and batteries
Bug spray, shirt, Thermacell products
Layered clothing to handle temperature range of 40 degrees to 80 degrees
Sense of adventure
Fly rods and reels one 6# system, one 8# system
Baitcast rods and reel, one 8# system, one 15# system
Spinners, spoons, swivels
Flies, beads, toothpicks, strike indicators
8, 10, 12, 15 and 20# line
Pliers or Leatherman tool, hemostats, nail knot tool
Split shot and stick weights
Fillet knife
Bags to store fish fillets
Medium landing net (optional)
